~Airline tickets for two to Africa to be raffled~
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – For the first time in the history of St. Maarten Carnival an African Flavor night has been included in the festival’s calendar. To match this historic event, organizers of the African Flavor concert are bringing one of Africa’s musical superstars Bracket, who gave the world the mega-hit, “Yori Yori,” to the stage.
Bracket will perform live and direct from Africa at the Festival Village on April 26, said Melissa Webster, president of the African Flavor foundation.
“We are all very excited about this for many reasons. First, because Bracket is coming with their full band out of Africa and have promised a night to remember. Secondly, because the African Flavor night is going to be a unique experience for everyone who attends the show. And thirdly, because we will be going straight from African Flavor into Jouvert morning,” Webster said.
Also appearing on the show will be Trinidad’s Benjai, who rocked the region last year with his hit song “Phenomenal.” Oswald, who’s currently working and living in France, will be flying in especially for the show, and joining him will be Roxxy and Exodus out of Anguilla. Also performing on the show is the dance group Nirvana, and one of St. Maarten’s very popular calypsonians King T-MO, the reigning Soca Groovy Monarch. They will be backed by Fred York and his Musicology band.
Another major feature of the African Flavor concert is that everyone who purchases a ticket will be eligible to participate in a raffle draw with the spectacular grand prize being round trip airline tickets for two to Nigeria.
“When we say we’re offering a unique experience, we mean just that,” said Ursel Biabiany-Gumbs, Event Coordinator.
“Buying a ticket to the African Flavor concert is not only about going to a fantastic show, but also about the chance to win fabulous prizes, throughout our promotional campaign,” she said.
“But you have to be in the Village at the time of the raffle to win the prizes, otherwise another winner will be drawn,” Biabiany-Gumbs explained. She said that only tickets that are purchased will be part of the raffle, not complimentary tickets.
“There are a limited amount of Early Bird tickets that will go on sale for a very short period of time from February 15 until February 29, for only $25 each, so make sure you get yours,” she added.
Regular tickets will cost $40 and $45 each on the day of the show. Ticket outlets are: Adolphus Richardson on the Pondfill Road, Ikemba African Gallery on Front Street, Van Dorp Madame Estate and Simpson Bay and Artsen Gas station in Marigot.
“Please like our Facebook page – African Flavor entertainment – and keep checking for updates and promotions, Biabiany-Gumbs added.
