Police Investigate mid-morning shooting incident
The Royal Anguilla Police Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident which occurred sometime at 9:00am this morning in the area of Delta Petroleum Gas Station on the Blowing Point Road.
At 9:55am police responded to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where it was reported that a young man had showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He remains hospitalized at the Princess Alexandra.
In appealing to the public for assistance Commissioner of Police Mr. Paul Morrison said, “Serious crime is like a cancer in society and when you deal with it quickly and effectively society can recover. However if it is left to persist the cancer will eventually destroy the host.”
Commissioner Morrison continued, “The RAPF is presently dealing with a body that is riddled with a cancer that is called serious crime. Unless everybody in Anguilla is now more willing to assist the police in bringing these people to justice Anguilla will suffer significantly.”
“We continue to appeal to the public who may have been in the area of Gas Station at the time of the incident of may have any information to assist the police to do so by calling Police Headquarters at 497-2333 or use our anonymous reporting system on www.gov.ai/911”.
A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the family of the victim.
40 years old man on remand for sexual offences
The RAPF on Monday 8th February, 2016 arrested and charged a 40 yrs. old man from Island Harbour for indecent assault and having sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 14 yrs.
The incident which occurred in late January was reported to the police on 1st February, 2016. As a result of investigations into the report the police arrested the offender and charged him with both offences.
He was taken before the Magistrate’s Court today Monday 8th February, 2016 and was remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison until Monday 15th February, 2016.
