FRENCH QUARTER, St. Martin – Protesters returned to their post on Thursday morning placing more obstacles on the road leading to Orient Beach. This protest however was reported to be a spontaneous one, initiated by various citizens.
Later on Thursday the protest took a turn for the worse. Reports came in that the riot squad of the Gendarmes began the process of clearing the barricades that were placed on the road.
Protesters in French Quarter then began to burn garbage resulting in huge puffs of black smoke rising into the air.
The riot squad of the Gendarmes then responded with the use teargas to disperse the crowd. A tractor was also used to clear the road in the process.
