PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – News has come in that the new decree sent by the Council of Ministers to the Governor His Excellency Eugene Holiday for his signature to cancel the dissolution of Parliament, has been returned to the government without a signature.
We also understood that the Council of Ministers met in an urgent meeting on Thursday to discuss the next step regarding this issue.
Upon taking office the new government which is led by Prime Minister William Marlin was charged with the organization of elections for next year and to handle the urgent financial situation of the island.
However upon taking office the Prime Minister and his cabinet sought to reverse the process which would lead to elections. This action is a clear indication that the current coalition is not desirous of facing the electorate at this time.
