PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL), COME Center, UNESCO, and Rotary Sunrise St. Maarten will be hosting SXM READs: Family Reading Nights, at the library, starting on Thursday, March 17, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, and continuing bi-weekly henceforth.
Family reading night is a fun way to promote literacy and lifelong learning while supporting each other. Reading together creates a positive learning environment and helps children develop language skills, reading comprehension and a love of books that can last a lifetime.
Parents and children are read to, and then broken up into their own personal family groups and read to again. The book that was read to them is taken home by the family to add to their home library collection.
All members of the family are welcome to come out to an evening of reading fun. Family reading nights will help families learn what a wonderful resource the library is to their families. Children and their parents will invest in reading and making good reading choices while bonding with SXM READ’s tutors, family, friends and the librarians.
SXM READs encourages reading and family participation in the education of the community.
Parents and children are urged to make St. Maarten and their library the next out and about event.
