GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – More Movement for the Elderly, will take place on Wednesday, June 07 with Parkinson’s dance session.
Senior citizens are invited to the John Larmonie Center, Longwall Road, Philipsburg, for More Movement for the Elderly Fitness at the National Institute of the Arts (NIA) who is coordinating the dance session.
The Parkinson’s Café/Anja Bronius dance session will be from 11.00am to 12.00pm.
The second activity for the same day is Dance Yoga at the University of St. Martin from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and is a collaboration of the University of St. Martin (USM)/SCELL and NIA.
To stay healthy or to improve health, older adults need to do two types of physical activity each week: dance, aerobic and muscle-strengthening activity.
Older adults aged 60 or older, who are generally fit and have no health conditions that limit their mobility, should try to be active daily.
The More Movement for the Elderly is a one-year campaign organized and coordinated by Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department from the Sint Maarten Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, with the participation of the following stakeholders: White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF), Windward Islands Physical Therapist Association (WIPTA), I&I Fitness, NIA and School for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (SCELL) of the University of St. Martin.
