GREAT BAY – The Court in First Instance handed down two sentences to Dwayne Oswald Sherwood yesterday morning. The first one was for indecent contacts with a minor girl at the library on October 17 of last year and for the theft of clothing from Uniq Fashion in Simpson Bay on November 22. The second sentence was for the theft of a bracelet at Caribbean Gems on December 21. In both cases, the court sentenced Sherwood to an unconditional sentence equal to time he had already spent in prison; it imposed the rest as a conditional sentence that will come back to haunt the defendant it he commits new crimes.
For the first two cases, Judge Yvonne Vanwersch sentenced Sherwood to 113 days of imprisonment, with 100 days suspended, 2 years of probation and 80 hours of community service. If the defendant does not do the community service, he will have to serve 40 days behind bars. In the third case, the court sentenced the 31-year old Sherwood to 105 days, with 100 days suspended and 2 years of probation.
