FRENCH ST. MARTIN — On January 30, at approximately 10:00pm Ricardo “Pika” Mackenzie was in a motorcycle accident where two scooters collided. Mackenzie suffered critical injuries, and was flown – in a coma – to Guadeloupe for further treatment.
On his Facebook page, friends and families asked the public to pray for his recovery. A fundraising event was also held to help pay for Mackenzie’s medical expenses.
According to one of his Facebook friends, the day of the fundraising was also to be a day of traffic awareness, and the consequences of NOT wearing helmets.
However, on Thursday, April 7, in Guadeloupe Mackenzie succumbed to his injuries. Mackenzie, also known as “Pika” was a well-known person in the French Quarter community.
According to 721news records, he becomes the second road fatality for this year on French St. Martin.
