PHILIPSBURG – Seaborne Airlines will now service the St. Maarten/San Juan route effective June 2016, announced Minister of Tourism Ingrid Arrindell.

“It is with great pleasure that I can inform that Seaborne Airlines headquartered in San Juan, Puerto Rico has decided to increase the San Juan/St. Maarten daily service as of the month of June 2016,” the Minister announced at Wednesday’s, May 18, Council of Ministers press conference.

Minister Arrindell praised Seaborne and expressed optimism that the new flight arrangement will boost tourism to St. Maarten from Puerto Rico.

“Seaborne is a very reliable airline company. It has its fleet with two twin otter planes and the route that it flies are the Caribbean routes. The reason we say that this airline is profitable is because it’s a fuel-efficient aircraft and it will help Seaborne to be competitive in an eco-friendly route,” the Minister explained.

Earlier this year, Minister Arrindell had announced that Jet Blue would no longer be flying the San Juan/St. Maarten route effective May 3, although the airline is still flying to St. Maarten out of JFK/Boston.
