PHILIPSBURG – Social & Health Insurances SZV and its staff have been actively promoting breast cancer awareness month.
SZV stands behind proactive preventive care and has been supportive in the public breast cancer awareness campaign of the Positive Foundation as well as championing its own awareness campaign.
On SZV’s Facebook page and offices, one can find featured testimonials of local persons whose lives have been impacted by the disease. Persons interested in getting to know more about the care that is covered by SZV as a breast cancer patient can find brochures at SZV offices and online via www.szv.sx. SZV staff will be offering in-house self-exams this week, along with demonstrations and Q&A.
SZV would like to encourage the public to remain proactive in personal preventive health care by making use of the various free opportunities within the community to access information and be tested regularly.
In general, it is very important to understand your body and recognize changes when they occur. This is only possible if one is aware and does periodic self-exams for breast cancer and routine doctor controls.
The Mobile Health Bus also expanded its services for Breast Cancer awareness month in facilitating free self-breast exams and demonstrations in collaboration with the Positive Foundation, American University of Integrated Sciences St. Maarten – School of Medicine (AUIS) and American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC). The health bus was available at the Dutch Quarter Community Health Fair as well as at the Cricket Field offering free exams and demonstrations.
The Mobile Health Bus has been offering free health tests throughout the community twice per week, has visited 12 districts and has offered over 500 free health tests so far. The bus will once again be stationed in Cul-de-Sac on Thursday, October 27, at the John Cooper José Lake Ball Park from 4:00pm-8:00 pm.
Persons visiting the bus can get free blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, BMI and HIV/AIDS testing. A nutritionist will be present to give persons nutritional advice, and Social Services will be present to assist persons who do not have medical insurance with information on qualifications and application procedures.
