TelEm Group technicians re-tuning mobile network to different frequency Thursday night into Friday morning.

Pond Island, Sint Maarten –  TelEm Group is informing customers that service on TelCell’s 3G voice and data network will be interrupted for several hours, from 11:00 pm Thursday night, until 5:00 am Friday morning to allow re-tuning of the network to a new frequency band.

Technicians are re-tuning to the new frequency and will be moving away from the use of a temporary frequency that was being affected by interference from neighbouring islands.

Manager, Network operations, Mr. Julien Lake says mobile voice and data customers can switch to use of the 2G network during the maintenance hours, since that network will continue to function normally.

Mr. Lake said the 3G network has to be properly configured, including adjustments to the various cell sites, after which tests have to be carried out to ensure signals are clear and the network is not again being affected by interference issues.

“We will complete the necessary tasks as quickly as possible with as little impact as possible to our customers,” said Mr. Lake, who went on to apologize to customers on the company’s behalf for any inconvenience caused.
