PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Thousands of revelers accompanied by some 15 bands and DJs took to the streets in what is described as one of the largest ever Jouvert mornings on St. Maarten.
The event, which started from the Salt Pickers Round About at approximately 4:15 Wednesday morning onto the Sucker Garden Road and went around the Great Salt Pond, ended at around 11:30 am.
However, this year’s event did not end without a few minor incidents, which were immediately dealt with by the police. Speaking to our news department, director of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation, Michael Granger told us that they were quite pleased with the participation of revelers in this year’s Jouvert morning.
The SCDF director is also happy with the participation of the many local bands in the jump up. This year, unlike previous years, Jouvert morning was only opened to local bands.
The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation is now looking forward to the International Reggae Show to take place tonight, Sabor Latino on Friday, the junior parade on Saturday, followed by the Grand Parade, which is scheduled to be held on Sunday.
