PHILIPSBURG – This May marks the 5th anniversary of U 2 Can Move, the program which was founded in 2012 by then Prime Minister, and now Chairperson of Parliament of St. Maarten Sarah Wescot-Williams. It is a fitness program promoting physical activity as an indispensable part of a healthy lifestyle.
U 2 Can Move will be commemorating this milestone anniversary with Five Days of Fitness, which will take place May 4-8. Over five consecutive days participants can enjoy motivational lectures, hiking, a beach workout, amongst other activities.
The program kicks off with an opening on May 4 at the John Larmonie Center with a motivational lecture by Dr. Natasha J. Gittens, Ph.D., CHE, CHT of Training Professionals International Firm (TPI), launch of the program’s new logo and a cocktail reception, followed by a dinner on Friday, May 5, a Hike on Saturday, May 6, and Crossfit SXM Beach Workout (WOD) and Beach Clean-up Sunday, May 7. The program closes with a special Zumba Party Session.
The U 2 Can Move program, which began with a focus on Zumba as an intense and fun way to be active, evolved into a program of a variety of activities, all centered around being active. As part of a community, where many jobs are sedentary in nature and obesity is a real concern, bordering on an epidemic, Wescot-Williams founded the initiative.
Memorable activities included the 3K and 6K walks around the Great Salt Pond, a hike in the hills of South Reward and the Mount Scenery climb on Saba. Regular week’s activities include Zumba, aerobics, strength and fitness trainings for primarily women of all ages and walks of life.
U 2 Can Move would like to thank its sponsors, TPI), Heavenly Water, Crossfit SXM, Fit Foods, Manrique Capriles and La Beauty Room.
Five Days of Fitness is open to all U 2 Can Move members and the general public. Persons interested in participating can register at the John Larmonie Center or contact Ramona Thomas at +1 (721) 520-4723 for more information.
