SUCKER GARDEN — The United People’s Party (UP Party), has postponed the public meeting at its first scheduled venue in Sucker Garden until further notice and is inviting the general public to its Saturday August 27th public meeting in Dutch Quarter on the Plantz Property adjacent Mc Donald’s.
The public meeting will begin at 7:00pm and ending at 11:00pm. The general public is invited to come out and get updates from the 23 energetic candidates for the UP Party, who are eager to tell its supporters the many plans they have been busy working on for the future of Country St. Maarten.
The UP Party was scheduled to have its first public meeting in Sucker Garden on the James property but had to cancel on Wednesday to Thursday and then until further notice due to inclement weather conditions brought on by a passing Low Pressure/Tropical Wave system.
Although the system has passed the island the weather forecast for Thursday still shows a sixty percent chance of rainfall. According to a press release issued by the UP Party, “In light of the continuing threat of rainfall and in consideration for our many supporters and well-wishers who religiously follow our public meetings, we felt it was in their best interest that we postpone the Sucker Garden leg of our campaign leading up to the September 26th Parliamentary election.”
A new date will be announced for the party to return to Sucker Garden. Meanwhile the party announced that the public meeting scheduled for Saturday August 27th in Dutch Quarter, will go ahead as scheduled. The party also announced the continuation of its very successful Drive Up Stick Up Friday afternoon event which it says will be held this Friday at Rumours Bar in Dutch Quarter.
The Drive Up Stick UP event gives the thousands of UP Party supporters an opportunity to get Party paraphernalia including hats, bumper stickers and flags as well as meet and greet the party’s 23 candidates.
According to the release, the 23 candidates will also be conducting a “walk through” of the Dutch Quarter area to speak with residents and invite them to Saturday’s general meeting.
