PHILIPSBURG – VOICES Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, is inviting the people of St. Maarten to their “You are Greatness; You come from Greatness” Cultural Ancestral July 1 Emancipation Day celebration at the Emilio Wilson Park on Friday, July 1.
The theme for this year’s event, “Remember When” honors St. Maarten pioneers who are doing great work in the community.
“When we embrace our Emancipation from within and become the Voice of our ancestors and the people in a positive way, then and only then can we become great legacy builders of our island St. Maarten,” stated Founder-President of VOICES Nkosazana Esther Illis.
“The Emilio Wilson Park is very secret and precious. This year marks five years we have been honoring our ancestors, who have walked that park before us,” noted Illis.
VOICES and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport are encouraging the people of St. Maarten to come out on July 1, in their cultural wear and bring a blanket along “so that we can have a Cultural Ancestral celebration at the Emilio Wilson Park.”
Traditional food, drinks, arts and crafts will be on sale. There will be bouncers and face painting for the children and music will be by DJ Nandes.
VOICES, which is an acronym for Victory Over Injustice Consciously Eliminating Silence, is a “Grassroots” Foundation. The objective of the Foundation is to combat all forms of abuse and violence through awareness, empowerment and prevention.
