The large summer sale organized by the association Action économique et citoyenne (AEC) was a great success in downtown Marigot, with a sustained influx of people around promotional offers and entertainment.

On Friday, August 7th, local businesses participated in the event from their shops, offering discounts on numerous items. On Saturday the 8th, the event took on a new dimension with the pedestrianization of Rue du Général de Gaulle and 90 spaces spread between stalls and shops.. Ready-to-wear clothing, shoes, books, accessories, jewelry, games, DIY tools, food and drinks: visitors found a wide variety of products at low prices, in addition to the promotions offered in the shops.

From 10:30 am, attendance has intensified. For Yann Le Cam, president of the AEC, which represents the shopkeepers and restaurateurs of Marigot, the value of the street fair isn't limited to sales: “It's important to create an atmosphere and give visibility to the town center.” The event also allows businesses to clear their stock and boost their cash flow. A welcome initiative in a more challenging economic climate. According to Yann Le Cam, the average monthly spend has dropped from around €150 to €50, and since June, “everyone has been losing momentum.” He points out that nearly 70% of businesses' revenue is generated by tourists over the six months of the year. After a good tourist season, shopkeepers now hope to maintain this momentum and find a better balance. _VX
