Every year since 2018, the World Cleanup Day, brings together millions of citizens around a common goal: collecting litter and raising awareness about environmental protection. On our island, the Nature Foundation of Sint Maarten proposes two coastal cleanup operations on September 19th and 20th.
The first cleaning will take place Saturday, September 19, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., at Little Bay Beach & Pond. The day after, Sunday, September 20, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.Volunteers are expected at the Beautiful Creole, to clean the area ofAnse des SablesThis action will also include a underwater operationParticipants are invited to form teams of three to six peopleFor each group, one of the members will need to use the Clean Swell app in order to record the collected waste. It is therefore recommended to come with a charged phone and to wear closed shoes, trousers and a long-sleeved top during the operation. The meeting point will be indicated by a registration tent at each of the two sites.
Numerous partners and associations are involved in both operations, including Clean Saint-Martin who will join the mobilization on Sunday, September 20th. She invites volunteers to meet at 7 a.m., at the entrance to Anse des Sables, just before La Belle CréoleAn invitation that serves as a reminder that, beyond the quantity of waste collected, each action contributes to limiting its arrival in the sea and preserving the island's natural spaces.
