With a 17,07 average, Maylie Auger-Azur achieved the best result in the general baccalaureate exam in Saint-Martin. This performance was unexpected for the former student of Robert Weinum High School, who will be heading to HEC Montréal in early August.
“It took me a while to realize what it meant,” she confides. Because her main objective was to obtain the highest honors. “Thanks to continuous assessment, I was sure of passing the baccalaureate; I was working towards the highest honors,” she explains.
Mission accomplished. Two weeks before her 18th birthday, Maylie achieved the best average in Saint-Martin and is now preparing to leave for Montreal, where she will study international business: “I would like to have a job that allows me to travel”.
The high school graduate notably obtained a 20 in the oral exam and an 18 in mathematics, one of her specialties along with the SES and the HGGSPHer biggest challenge? Philosophy. “My friend and I spent seven or eight hours revising,” she says. She ended up getting a 14, whereas she “was aiming for an average grade.”
Her key to success: attentive listening. “Everything happens in class. If you listen to the teacher, that does 80% of the work.” Outside of school, the young woman has also been involved in her local community. She also served as vice-president of the Territorial Youth Council for two years during the previous term.
Born in Martinique, Maylie grew up in Saint Martin. An only child, she is about to leave her parents for the first time. “They’ve known for six months that I was leaving, and they’re still not ready. They’re stressed,” she says with a smile. Maylie has been aiming for HEC Montréal (a prestigious business school) since her sophomore year. “I was much happier when I received the final answer from HEC than when I got my high school diploma results,” admits the young woman who has never even seen snow.
Before her departure in early August, Maylie worked as an activity leader at Sports Ticket to prepare for her move to Canada. In Montreal, she will reunite with several friends from Saint Martin who have already settled there: “I’m so excited to go that I’m not worried about leaving. I’ve been dreaming of this country since 3th grade.” _DR
Editor's note: Good luck, Maylie, on this new adventure in Montreal. May it bring you success and wonderful encounters… and don't forget your coat for the Quebec winter!
