One person died Saturday night after an accident on the R7, in the Orient Bay area. Three men were in the vehicle.According to the public prosecutor of Basse-Terre, the accident occurred in the context of a armed robbery of the vehicle.

The car went off the road on Saturday, August 29, shortly before 23 p.m., on the R7. at the height of the low wall located at the entrance to the Gardens of Orient Bay. One of the occupants died in the accident, while the driver sustained minor injuries. Upon the arrival of emergency services, a man was found unconscious in a ditchDespite resuscitation attempts and the intervention of the emergency medical team, he could not be revived. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was treated by emergency services. The third occupant had fled after the accident on the way to Orient Bay. He was eventually caught by a security guardthen placed in custody by law enforcement.

Two separate investigations

According to information released by the prosecutor's office and the gendarmerie, the vehicle had been the victim of an armed robbery before the accident. The driver, considered a victim of this extortion, was on board with the two other individuals at the time of the incident.
