The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM), in collaboration with members of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar), has continued carrying out coordinated safety and crime prevention operations across various locations on Sint Maarten over the past week.

These joint operations are part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety, combat illegal firearm possession, address narcotics-related offenses, and prevent criminal activities throughout the island.

During the past week, the combined teams carried out several vehicle controls, patrols, and targeted enforcement actions.

The following results were recorded during the operations:

  • 175 vehicles stopped and controled .
  • 8 official reports (fines) issued for various violations.
  • 2 firearms confiscated.
  • 2 fraudulent driver’s licenses confiscated.
  • 4 incidents involving suspected violations of the Opium Ordinance.
  • Police responded to 1 shooting incident in the Fort Willem area.
  • Additional preventive patrols were conducted during nighttime hours in the Maho and Cupecoy areas, with particular attention to preventing robberies and other criminal activities.

With the upcoming busy tourist season, KPSM recognizes the importance of maintaining a safe environment for residents, businesses, and visitors to the island.

As tourist arrivals increase and commercial activities intensify, KPSM, together with its law enforcement partners, will continue conducting coordinated controls and preventive patrols in various areas, particularly locations where increased criminal activity or public safety concerns have been identified.

KPSM emphasizes that the illegal possession of firearms remains a serious criminal offense. Individuals found in possession of illegal firearms risk arrest, prosecution, and confiscation of these weapons.

KPSM expresses its appreciation to the members of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) for their continued assistance and cooperation in strengthening law enforcement efforts on Sint Maarten. These joint operations will continue over the coming weeks as part of a broader strategy to maintain public order, prevent crime, and ensure a safe environment throughout the upcoming tourist season.

KPSM also calls on the general public to cooperate with law enforcement officers during these controls and to report suspicious activities.

Public safety remains a shared responsibility, and KPSM remains committed to working with its law enforcement partners and the community to keep Sint Maarten safe.
