THE NETHERLANDS (THE HAGUE) – Minister Plenipotentiary Drs. Gracita R. Arrindell, recently received a courtesy visit from the Board of Financial Supervision (Cft) Fleur Brouwers-van Raaij, Deputy Secretary of the Secretariat of the Board of Financial Supervision, and Glenn Thode, Board Member representing Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (BES).

The meeting provided an opportunity for a constructive exchange of views on matters relating to public finances, institutional strengthening, and the broader socioeconomic development of Sint Maarten.

Particular attention was given to the importance of brain gain and strengthening Sint Maarten’s professional capacity. 

The discussion highlighted the value of encouraging qualified Sint Maarten professionals living and working abroad to return or otherwise contribute their knowledge and expertise to the country. 

In this regard, the importance of attracting and mobilizing professionals with expertise in financial and legal matters was underscored. Such expertise could also be made available through project-based or temporary assignments, allowing professionals abroad to contribute to specific areas of need while supporting the continued strengthening of local capacity.

The courtesy visit reaffirmed the importance of maintaining open dialogue and constructive cooperation, while exploring opportunities to strengthen local expertise, institutional capacity, and the long-term resilience of Sint Maarten.
