The event also welcomed Mexico’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E. Alicia Buenrostro Massieu, who presented her credentials to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander on September 2.

In her remarks, Ambassador Buenrostro Massieu highlighted the longstanding friendship between Mexico and the Netherlands and identified opportunities for closer cooperation in areas including trade, investment, artificial intelligence, climate change, water management, energy, sustainable agriculture, innovation and semiconductors.

The ambassador also underscored the importance of multilateralism, democracy, the rule of law, respect for international law and gender equality.

The Minister Plenipotentiary’s participation reflects Sint Maarten’s continued engagement with members of the diplomatic community in The Hague and its interest in strengthening international relations and identifying opportunities for cooperation that can contribute to the island’s social and economic development.

The reception also provided an opportunity to recognize the broader links between the Netherlands and the Caribbean community. Sint Maarten’s representation at the event reaffirmed the country’s active presence in diplomatic and international affairs within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Minister Plenipotentiary congratulated Ambassador Buenrostro Massieu and the Embassy of Mexico on the occasion and expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in the celebration.

The Government of Sint Maarten looks forward to continued engagement with Mexico and the Embassy of Mexico in the Netherlands, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as tourism, culture, education, trade, innovation, climate resilience and sustainable development.
