GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – As the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season progresses, the Department of Communication (DCOMM) is encouraging residents to stay informed and prepared by tuning in to a special hurricane season edition of its radio program Inside Government on SXMGOV Radio 107.9 FM.
The special program features Sheryl LeBlanc, Meteorologist and Forecaster at the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS), who provides valuable insight into the 2026 hurricane season outlook, local weather trends, climate-related concerns, and measures that residents and businesses should take to enhance their preparedness.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially began on June 1 and runs through November 30. Throughout this six-month period, residents are being urged to remain vigilant, informed, and prepared for any potential weather-related threats that may impact the country.
International forecasting agencies continue to monitor atmospheric conditions across the Atlantic Basin, including sea surface temperatures, tropical wave activity, and the possible development of El Niño conditions, all of which can influence storm formation and intensity during the season.
While some forecast models suggest that the 2026 season may be less active than recent years, meteorologists continue to emphasize an important preparedness message: it only takes one storm to have a significant impact on Sint Maarten and the surrounding region.
