MARIGOT–Further to the seizure of two hundred eighty-five kilos of cocaine on board a vessel intercepted in Grand Case Bay by the Coastguard vessel DF24 on the night of December 2, and morning of December 3, 2018, the Gendarmerie has disclosed new developments pertaining to that operation where one of the individuals on board was arrested and taken into custody while two other individuals managed to escape.
The investigations carried out by the detectives of the Gendarmerie in cooperation with officers from Office Central pour la Répression du Traffic Illicite des Stupéfiants OCRTIS made it possible to locate one of the suspects in Guadeloupe.
On January 29, 2019, this suspect was spotted in Gosier but to escape arrest he committed suicide.
A vast judicial operation was then launched simultaneously in Guadeloupe and St. Martin, which led to the arrest of eleven individuals and seizure of several vehicles, boats and large sums of cash. Four persons are being held in pre-trial detention. The judicial investigation that opened at the specialized inter-regional court of Fort-de-France (972), Martinique, continues.
