ANGUILLA--Anguilla’s .ai country code top level domain, is on pace to exceed one million registered domains in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting surging global interest from tech firms and artificial intelligence startups.
Information Technology Minister José Vanterpool announced the latest figures and projections during a government press conference on 10 November, noting that registrations have already passed 908,000 as of 26 October and are growing at about 1 percent per week.
“Over 10,000 new domains were registered just last week alone, consistent with the performance of the previous week,” Vanterpool said.
The financial impact has been significant. According to Vanterpool, EC$21.57 million (about US$8.05 million) was collected from .ai sales in October, bringing year to date revenue to EC$189.58 million (about US$70.15 million). This already exceeds the full year 2024 total of EC$104.25 million by more than EC$85 million, and more than doubles 2023’s EC$86.83 million.
Gross revenue linked to recent registrations stands at about EC$53.51 million (US$19.8 million), with new domains accounting for roughly 73 percent of overall earnings. Auction activity is also strong. Vanterpool reported that last week’s auction revenue was about EC$227,000 (US$84,000), and that in a recent auction a single .ai domain sold for EC$1.09 million (US$405,000).
The minister said the data currently points to a renewal rate of about 64.7 percent for existing .ai domains, which he described as a positive sign for future revenue. In November, 4,850 domains are due for renewal, a figure that could increase to around 7,100 in the coming months. Most of these domains are expected either to be renewed or to move into auction, which Vanterpool said is encouraging given the strong auction performance so far.
A team from Identity Digital, the United States based company that manages the .ai domain, is scheduled to visit Anguilla later this week. They will meet with government officials and other stakeholders to review performance to date and discuss strategies to sustain growth, maximise income, and ensure continued benefits for the government and people of Anguilla.
