GREAT BAY (DCOMM): According to the World Health Organization (WHO), antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.

As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines become ineffective and infections become increasingly difficult or impossible to treat.

In observance of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week later this month, Collective Prevention Services (CPS) is reminding members of the community and healthcare providers to participate in a digital survey.

The survey link for members of the community is: https://forms.gle/VeB3hDhF2R64LTJu8

The survey for healthcare providers can be found at the following link: https://forms.gle/SaD2zpMjjULUhUyS6

The anonymous and confidential survey will provide insight into the public’s knowledge and perception of antimicrobial resistance.

Researchers estimated that AMR in bacteria caused an estimated 1.27 million deaths in 2019 globally.
