Dump catches fire again, still no update by Minister on WTE plant

PHILIPSBURG – Residents in the Philipsburg and surrounding areas woke up on Sunday to the toxic fumes of yet another Dump fire. The Dump has been smouldering the past week resulting in the yet another large fire on Sunday. The fire was outed some hours later, however the Dump fires remain a serious problem.

The Minister of VROMI, Angel Meyer, has yet to update the residents of St. Maarten regarding the status of the much talked about Waste to Energy (WTE) plant. Since April this year, the Minister has not provided an update nor has he laid out contingency plans to prevent fires.
