Earthquake shakes parts of Caribbean

ROSEAU, Dominica, Wednesday October 19, 2016 – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook parts of the Caribbean yesterday evening, but there were no reports of serious damage or injuries.

Residents in St Lucia, Dominica, Martinique and Guadeloupe, and even Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, reported feeling the tremor which occurred around 6:08 p.m.

Several of them posted on the Facebook page of the University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Centre (SRC).

According to the SRC, the epicenter of the quake was measured 8 km southwest of Roseau, Dominica; 85 km northwest of Fort-de-France, Martinique; and 109 km south of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
