To conclude schooling in style while opening up a world of possibilities for students. That is the ambition of project “Towards new horizons”, led by Claire Buatois, professor ofEPS au Moho Engraved Rock College in Quartier d’Orléans. From June 18th to 21st, nine students from the 3rd A SEGPA class (adapted general and vocational education section) thus participated in a sports and educational stay in Guadeloupe.
Conceived as the culmination of a year of support and collaboration, the project aimed to to awaken students’ curiosity, encourage them to surpass themselves and cultivate a taste for discovery through activities carried out with enjoyment.
Throughout the school year, the students had explored the trails of Saint-Martin as part of a hiking cycle Designed by Claire Buatois to help them better understand their territory. In Guadeloupe, the hiking experience spread over two days took a new dimension with the discovery of landscapes previously unknown to most of them: tropical forests, waterfalls and rivers were among the highlights of the program.
Alongside their French and SVTAxel Mariotti, the middle school students also enriched their scientific knowledge and explored new career perspectivesThe visit to the Ti Bwa La sawmill in Saint-Claude, where they were able to observe different stages of woodworking, from taking measurements to handling, as well as the discovery of the CREPS, where the group was hosted, allowed them to explore several professions, better understand certain training paths and exchange with athletes.
A human experience above all
More than just a trip, the experience primarily highlighted the values of living together, at the heart of education in SEGPA. Respectful, curious and involvedThe students were unanimously praised by partners and teachers, demonstrating numerous signs of seriousness and autonomy throughout their stay.
For Claire Buatois, who wishes to thank the SEGPA team and the management of the Roche Gravée middle school in Moho, this initiative demonstrates that efforts and perseverance allow us to overcome the limits we impose on ourselvesNone of the nine students present had ever had the opportunity to visit Guadeloupe. All returned with lasting memories, a increased confidence and the desire to continue their exploration.
A feedback evening is planned for this month to present families with a film recounting this adventure. It’s an opportunity to relive a project that gave these young people the chance to look further ahead and glimpse new horizons for a few days. _Vx
