Hervé Mariton, president of the FEDOM, pays a visit to St. Martin

MARIGOT: Several working meetings were held last Tuesday between the Collectivité, the State, the CCISM, the FipCom, and a delegation from the Fédération des Entreprises d’Outre-Mer (FEDOM) with the main topic being the economic development of the territory.

Hervé Mariton, who was briefly Minister of Overseas France in 2007, was accompanied by Laurent Renouf, General Delegate of the FEDOM. This initiative of the FipCom was intended to bring together officials and socio-professionals to highlight the union between the two parties on concerns such as information on the establishment of the observatory of public procurement with the prefecture, grievances in social matters with the possibility of opening a survey of satisfaction of the services of the CGSS to facilitate relations between the organization and contributors, the problem of territorial continuity in terms of air travel and delivery of goods with the difficulties of being a “stopover” territory, as well as that related to the adaptation of European standards to St. Maarten, examples of issues that underline the importance of having support at the level of ministries to understand and fully assimilate the particularities of our territory.

This trip was also an opportunity to visit, through Michel Vogel of the FipCom, several member companies, which allowed Hervé Mariton and Laurent Renouf to meet with business leaders on site. Hervé Mariton showed himself to be very attentive to common and individual concerns, noting the energy deployed by the socio-professionals who fight daily for the economic development of Saint-Martin. An extension, until 2029, of several tax measures applicable in overseas territories was recently adopted in the Senate. Created in 1986 and present in all overseas communities since 2017, the FEDOM has become the main interlocutor of the public authorities in terms of the economic and social development of the overseas territories.
