SOUTH REWARD – On Sunday, November 30, 2025, teachers, students and parents of the Milton Peters College once again bid farewell to ten students travelling to the Netherlands and then to Germany for the school’s annual student exchange. The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Melissa Gumbs and the Minister of Vromi, Patrice Gumbs, together with his chief of staff and the Secretary General were also present at the Juliana International Airport to convey their well wishes to the group.
The students were accompanied by Laura Karimbaks, Dutch teacher and member of the Internationalization team and Naomi Christian-Richardson, head of the HAVO/VWO department.
In Amsterdam, they were welcomed by their German partners and teachers. They toured the city and visited the Van Gogh museum, before boarding the bus to Ahaus, Germany. Here, they will be picked up by their respective host families and embark on an educative and activity-filled week in Germany, where they will attend classes at the Anne Frank Realschule Ahaus, spend time in their host families, and visit the Central Waste Management to gather information and advice that can benefit the island of St. Maarten. Upon return, the students will publicly present this information.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the Erasmus+ organization for making this trip a reality, the ten students and their parents, who tirelessly sought donations to help fund the trip, and the companies that offered the funding, namely Notary Boekhoudt, NRPB, Orange Grove Pharmacy, TriSport, NAPA-Trepar, BTP, Soggy Dollar, Sunline Technical Maintenance, Consider it Solved by Roseburg Law Firm, Ace, IGY Marina, Shopper’s Stop, Caribbean Concrete, Steflogix, PJIAE, Sint Maarten Lions Club, SOL Antilles NV Sint Maarten, Pretty Collection, Meraki Wellness Lounge, Pineapple Pete and Soggy Dollar.
In March 2026, the group will welcome their German counterparts to our beautiful island for the second part of the exchange.
