While on patrol in the Caribbean Sea last month, the Dutch Coast Guard (DCCG) patrol plane spotted two go-fast vessels suspected of transporting drugs.
The DCCG and the Dutch navy ship Groningen immediately went into action, setting a course for the two fast craft before calling in the American helicopter and the FRISC (rapid response ships at sea). The soldiers had to fire targeted shots at the outboard motors to arrest the drug traffickers. 2177 kg of cocaine were discovered on board one of the two boats. The four individuals were transferred to the US Coast Guard and the drugs were destroyed. The Groningen is notably deployed for operations to combat drug trafficking. According to the Dutch army, this is the third largest seizure made since last April. _AF
