Earlier this week the Oyster Bay Beach Resort employees donated boxes of non-perishable food items to the I-Can Foundation. Corine Heywood a long time employee of the Resort along with William Pew, a frequent visitor to the island, set off the idea. The Assistant GM, Anne-Marie Brooks, created the program whereby every first Saturday of the month employees of the Resort collect and bring non-perishable items for the I-can Foundation.
A lot of resort guests leave non-perishable items in the apartments upon check-out. Typically, the housekeeping staff is allowed to take the items home. However, every first Saturday of the month, they share their items with the I-can Foundation. “Our hope is by taking this first step, other resorts will see the possibility for their participation and together we will make great strides in assisting the I-can Foundation with the much needed support.“ The I-can foundation is a foster home located in Dutch Quarter that offers living accommodations to children between the ages of 0 to 13 years, who have been the victims of neglect, abuse or other social issues.
