The famous photography competition organized by the Community which sprinkles giant black and white photos throughout the urban landscape has the theme this year of “Photos of family living in Saint-Martin”.
Faces of Saint-Martin is an ephemeral street art exhibition, directly inspired by the “Inside Out” project instigated by the famous French artist JR and which gives everyone the opportunity to share their portrait, their story and to send a message across the world. urban space. Brilliantly organized by the Department of Cultural Action of the Community, Faces of Saint-Martin is a mirror reflecting the soul of the territory through its population. The competition is open to amateur or professional photographers over 18 years old, residing in Saint-Martin/Sint-Maarten. The call for applications is already open, until Tuesday October 17, 2021. The application file can be downloaded from the Community website, completed and submitted against receipt or sent by registered mail with notice postal receipt at the Purchasing and Public Markets Department, 10 rue Félix Eboué in Marigot. Candidates are selected, upon presentation of 10 photographs, by the selection committee and their works will be displayed in strategic locations throughout the region. The photographs will be printed in black and white on large format paper and stuck on the walls of Saint-Martin. The exhibition will not be fixed, it will evolve over time, since the posters will peel off and tear until they disappear, dissolution also being part of the artistic approach of this street art project. By choosing this family theme, the organizers invite artists to offer photographs of family life in Saint-Martin, moments of life, traditions, memories... with a view to vernacular photographs, a type of amateur photography whose subject is everyday life, without artistic intention, also practiced by professional photographers. The selection criteria will focus on the relevance of the photograph to the subject of the competition, the technical quality, the first impression of the jury and the emotional factor.
