GREAT BAY--Soualiga Action Movement (SAM) is marking the one year anniversary of the Honorable Minister Nathalie Tackling’s tenure as Minister of Justice, a position to which she was politically appointed by the SAM Party.

Over the past year, the Ministry of Justice has navigated complex transitions, longstanding structural challenges, and the daily responsibility of maintaining public safety. Throughout this period, SAM says Minister Tackling has provided stable and focused leadership.

“From the day Minister Tackling took office, she approached the role with a clear sense of duty to the people of St. Maarten,” SAM stated. “Her vision is straightforward: a country where every resident can live in peace and every visitor feels welcomed, respected, and protected. That vision is grounded in community trust, fairness, and the belief that justice is not just a department, it is a promise.”

According to SAM, much of the progress during the past twelve months has taken place behind the scenes, through incremental but important improvements.

“Over this first year we have seen deliberate steps to strengthen systems, address gaps, improve internal structures, and move forward reforms that had been left untouched for too long,” the party noted. “This work is quiet and complex, but it lays the foundation for a justice system that can better serve St. Maarten for years to come.”

SAM also highlighted the contribution of those working within the broader justice chain.

“Strong leadership is never carried alone,” the party said. “We acknowledge the dedicated staff in the cabinet of the Minister of Justice and the men and women across the entire justice chain. Their long hours and resilience form the backbone of every improvement made. Their service is essential to the Ministry’s progress.”

Looking ahead, SAM emphasized that this one year mark is a point of reflection, not conclusion.

“This is not the celebration of an ending,” SAM stated. “It is the recognition of a journey that is very much ongoing. Much has been done, yet much more lies ahead. With Minister Tackling’s guidance, and with continued partnership and community support, we are confident that a safer and stronger St. Maarten is being built, one day at a time.”
