Sint Maarten recorded an increase in staycation tourism, with a total of 131 transient guests welcomed during the first quarter of 322, compared to 2024 in the same period last year, an increase of 123%.

The North American market remains the cornerstone of tourism in Sint Maarten, representing 53,2% of the total number of visitors in the first quarter of 2024. Next come Canada (12,2%), France (10%) and the Countries -Low (5,1%). The remaining 19,5% are tourists from various other countries.

The ever-increasing number of cruise passengers

The cruise industry also saw growth in the first quarter of 2024. A total of 572 passengers were recorded at the Port of Philipsburg compared to 474 in the same period of 533, an increase of 542%. January 2023 saw a tiny decline of 7%, while February and March saw growth rates  11,71% and 13,10% respectively.

The number of cruise calls in January 2024 is 87 compared to 91 in the same period last year, a decrease of 4,40%. In February and March 2024, the number of stopovers amounts to 74 and 81 compared to 66 and 73 the previous year, i.e. increases  respectively 12,12% and 10,96%. _AF
