GREAT BAY--The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) is celebrating the outstanding performance of its youth sailors at the 2025 Caribbean Dinghy Championship (CDC), hosted by the Antigua Yacht Club from October 24–26. The team displayed strong teamwork and determination, finishing second overall in the Nations Cup and securing podium finishes in every class they entered.
Representing Sint Maarten were Nathan Sheppard, Oskar Jarrett Versteegden, Adilyn Treadwell, Paola Lapierre, Harper Treadwell, and Massimo Lapierre, who delivered exceptional results:
1st – Optimist Class: Nathan Sheppard
1st – Topper Fusion: Oskar Jarrett Versteegden & Adilyn Treadwell (with Paola Lapierre sailing on Day 1)
3rd – ILCA 4: Harper Treadwell
3rd – ILCA 6: Massimo Lapierre
Their combined efforts placed Sint Maarten just behind host nation Antigua & Barbuda, and ahead of teams from Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Adding to the adventure, the SMYC sailors sailed from Sint Maarten to Antigua aboard a monohull, turning the journey into both a team-building experience and a valuable warm-up for the championship.
“This year’s results show how hard our young sailors have worked,” said Sam Peeks, SMYC Racing Coach. “We’re proud of how they represented Sint Maarten — not only through their results, but through their positive attitude and sportsmanship.”
Organized by the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA), the Caribbean Dinghy Championship unites youth teams from across the region for three days of competitive racing and island pride. The SMYC extends its gratitude to the Antigua Yacht Club and the Caribbean Sailing Association for hosting another memorable event.
