Over 3000 of you strolled down Rue de la République last Saturday to discover what the 40 stands of the sixth edition had to offer.The 10th edition of Spotlight had plenty to offer. Food, jewelry, accessories, decorations, entertainment… the event once again transformed downtown Marigot into a showcase of local craftsmanship. Despite the heat, exhibitors persevered until 10 p.m. Has this event become a staple of Saint Martin’s economic life? We asked. the question to the exhibitors and visitors.

Joy Carty, Soualigan Slangs:
“Yes, because Marigot is usually a bit quiet on Saturdays. But here, everyone is gathered, there’s food, there are artisans, handmade products, and even things you can’t find anywhere else… It’s really a good way to find customers. Also, being able to exhibit all day is better. Because often, other events are in the evening. We’ve seen the event grow; I think at the beginning, there were only about fifteen businesses, and now there are forty. Even in terms of the diversity of businesses, you can feel that there’s a real enthusiasm.”

Jamila, visitor:
“In my opinion, it’s beneficial because it brings in a lot of vendors who normally sell from their homes or cars, so it’s really great to be in a place that brings together all your favorite local shops and artisans. And for example, I’ve never eaten mussels and fries and I can’t wait to try this dish! I come from the Dutch side and this is my first time here.”

Evelyne Arrondell, Eve Pastry:
“Because most of the time, people don’t actually know us. When you’re self-employed and your shop is at home, it allows people to discover you and contact you later. This is my first time participating in Spotlight, and it’s really a test. We hope to make a profit, cover costs, and make it all worthwhile. We haven’t had too many people yet; it’s very hot, but we’re here until 22 p.m.!”

The day was also supposed to mark the inauguration of La VitrineA shared space located at the corner of Victor Maurasse and Félix Éboué streets, dedicated to local artisans and overseen by the CCISM (Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Trades), similar to Spotlight, was planned. However, due to furniture not being delivered on time, its opening could not take place and will be postponed to a later date.
