PHILIPSBURG – St. Maarten / St. Martin was awarded a 19th spot in Trip Advisor’s Top 25 Destinations in the World and 2nd place in the Trip Advisor’s Top 10 Destinations in the Caribbean. Trip Advisor, one of the largest travel booking sites in the world has announced the lists this week.
The island received a significant boost by last year’s summer digital marketing campaigns on both Trip Advisor and Expedia, initiated by St. Maarten Hospitality and Tourism Organisation (SHTA) and executed in joint effort with the Tourism Department and several hotel properties. The digital marketing push was supported by a series of newspaper ads in leading newspapers in the USA.
Trip Advisor’s described the island as follows: “Get the experience of visiting two island colonies in the same 37 square miles. Saint Maarten/Saint Martin’s spicy marriage of Caribbean, French and Dutch cultures matches its physical diversity: the island is both urban and untamed, with rain forest-like landscapes, white beaches, and amazing caves and wildlife.”
