GREAT BAY--Minister of Finance Hon. Marinka Gumbs is inviting the public to three key Financial Literacy Month sessions scheduled for November 25, 26 and 30. These sessions will address some of the most pressing financial topics for residents:
• November 25: Taxation on Real Estate Income in St. Maarten
• November 26: A Financially Strong St. Maarten
• November 30: Banking on St. Maarten
The November 30 session on banking is expected to draw particular interest, given ongoing public concern about banking fees and access to financial services. It will offer residents a chance to receive clear information and pose questions directly to the presenters.
These upcoming sessions build on the strong turnout earlier in the month. On Tuesday evening, more than 100 individuals attended the presentation on Introduction to Investing by Mr. Emilio Kalmera. Participants praised the clarity and depth of the information and requested a follow up session. On Wednesday, another well attended session, Understanding Your Pension, gave civil servants and other attendees important insights into how their pensions work and how to better plan for retirement.
In addressing the importance of Financial Literacy Month, the Minister of Finance stated: “An informed community is an empowered community."
The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to promoting financial education as a way to strengthen households, improve decision making and support sustainable economic development. she encourages everyone who has not yet registered to do so as soon as possible, as seating for the remaining sessions is limited.
