SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - How much do you know about climate change in the Dutch Caribbean, and what can you do to become a climate hero? On 30 October, primary school classes across the region are invited to put their nature knowledge to the test during the annual Big Live Nature Quiz.

In the previous edition, more than 500 students participated. Classes in grades 5 and 6 (group 7 & 8) from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten can join this free online quiz from their own classroom.

Students will learn more about the nature of the Dutch Caribbean, test what they know in a fun quiz and compete for a sailing and snorkel trip for the winning team and their teacher.

Become a climate hero

The quiz questions are based on the latest edition of BioNews Kids, DCNA’s free nature magazine for school children. This year’s edition, Become a Climate Hero, explores how climate change is affecting the Dutch Caribbean and what children can do to help protect the nature around them.

Teachers can use BioNews Kids to explore the topic with their class before the quiz, but no studying is required to join. The magazine is available in English, Dutch, Papiamentu and Papiamento, and hardcopies are being available via the local nature parks of each island.

The quiz itself will be held in English, with Dutch and Papiamentu/o subtitles.

Ready to join?

Registration is open to primary schools across the Dutch Caribbean, and participation is free after registration. Teachers can register their class at dcnanature.org/quiz.
