Dual Inaugural Event of Le Sommet Foundation & HASMA to Celebrate Haiti Flag Day | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) - On Wednesday May 18th, the Le Sommet Foundation (LSF) and the Haitian Association of Sint Maarten (HASMA)-inaugurated their office during a grand Haitian Flag Day celebration at the Wifol building, the foundation said in a press statement on Monday. 

Celebrating this year's Haitian Flag Day in the presence of various community leaders, invited guests, political and Government officials, the Le Sommet Foundation and HASMA officially introduced its board members. 

"Tonight, we are proud to introduce the board of the Haitian Association of Sint Maarten. A dynamic group of individuals all dedicated to representing and standing up for/with the Haitian community," - President of HASMA Jimmy Jean Louis. 

The event was well attended with various speakers gracing the podium. Member of Parliament (MP) Solange L Duncan, MP George Pantophlet, MP Angelique Roumou, MP Ludmila De Weever, MP Melissa Gumbs, and various others all echoed their appreciation, love and respect for the Haitian people and their culture. 

Dr. Luc Mercelina also expressed his sentiments with an illustrious explanation about the Haitian flag. 

"The Haitian community of Sint Maarten has come a long way. From November 2020 we have been serving and representing the Haitian community here in St. Maarten. Our overall aim is to aid the development of our community and by extension Sint Maarten through various initiatives and effective partnerships with both the private and public sector," Fabio Doralice (Vice president of HASMA and President of Le Sommet Foundation) stated. 

"I commend HASMA and the Le Sommet Foundation for their exemplary work and particularly in representing the Haitian Community in Sint Maarten. I look forward to the further strengthening of a long-term friendship and working collaboration,” Nathalie Fourcand (Haiti Consulate General in Curacao) stated. 

HASMA “The Haitian Association of Sint Maarten” is an associative body elected by its populist to aid, support, represent and defend the social, cultural, professional, and educational interest and highlight the ailments of Haitians and their descendants living on Sint Maarten.  

“Le Sommet Foundation” is a non-profit organization formed to promote the professional, social, and cultural development of individuals within the community of Sint Maarten. 

Haitian Flag Day is celebrated every May 18th. This year marks 219 years of the Haitian Flag adaptation for the republic of Haiti. 

As token of appreciation both governments were gifted with an original Haitian painting. 

"As we present these beautiful paintings to governments of Sint Maarten and St. Martin and of behalf of all Haitians and the descendants of the first Haitian migrants to the island, we want to say thank you for allowing us to be a part of your community, thank you Sint Maarten for the countless opportunities," stated Fabio Doralice.
