SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - As part of ongoing traffic control operations, with a focus on confiscating illegal narcotics and weapons, officers of the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) conducted traffic enforcement stops during the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 1, 2026. A total of 25 vehicles were controlled at various locations throughout the island.
While carrying out the control officers observed a white Kia Rio and a silver Kia Picanto traveling at a high rate of speed along Welfare Road At approximately 4:00 a.m. Officers subsequently intercepted the vehicles to conduct a traffic stop.
Handgun Discovered
During the intervention, officers discovered a handgun inside one of the vehicles. The firearm was immediately confiscated and taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation. As a result of the discovery, the occupants of the vehicle, identified by their initials as S. E., A. C., and A. R., were arrested.
The suspects were transported to the Philipsburg Police Station, where they were detained pending further questioning and investigation.
These activities formed part of KPSM’s continued nighttime traffic control operations aimed at addressing dangerous driving behavior and other violations on the public roads.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearm, which remains in police custody, is ongoing.
