SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Five new automated weather stations are helping the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten build a clearer picture of local weather conditions, with observations from different locations across the country.
The new network is one of a wide range of investments being implemented through Emergency Recovery Project I (ERP1).
The project supports the repair of public and private infrastructure and aims to increase the capacity of Sint Maarten's emergency services to respond to future natural disasters.
Through ERP1, the Sint Maarten Trust Fund supported the equipment, installation and training needed to bring the new weather monitoring network into operation.
More local weather data means a better understanding of conditions across Sint Maarten, supporting forecasting, preparedness and informed decision-making.
