FREEGAN Foundation Featured on National Dutch Television | Soualiganewsday

SINT MAARTEN/NETHERLANDS - The work of FREEGAN foundation on Sint Maarten has received national attention in the Netherlands. On Monday, August 31, the organization was featured in Expeditie Nederland, broadcast by Omroep MAX on NPO 2 at 6:30 PM.

The episode focused on social cooking initiatives and the powerful role food can play in bringing people together, reducing loneliness and supporting healthier eating. Reporter Raydaniël Petroudis visited FREEGAN foundation to offer viewers in the Netherlands a behind-the-scenes look at the volunteers who help provide groceries and meals to more than 100 families on Sint Maarten every week.

At the heart of the report was beloved FREEGAN volunteer Signita Martin, who recently celebrated her 80th birthday. For Signita, volunteering is about much more than simply lending a helping hand. Her involvement gives her purpose, connection and a strong sense of belonging.

“We are incredibly proud that the work being done by our volunteers has now been seen across the Netherlands,” said FREEGAN foundation Managing Director and co-founder DJ de Jong. “This feature showed that FREEGAN is not only about food. It is about dignity, connection and creating a community where people genuinely care for one another. Signita represents the heart of everything we do.”

The national television feature is an important moment of recognition for the dedicated volunteers, donors and partners who make FREEGAN’s work possible. It also draws attention to the continuing need on Sint Maarten, where many families face financial hardship and rely on community organizations for practical support.
