SINT MAARTEN (COLE BAY) – On Monday August 9th, 2021, members of the Sint Maarten Lions Club & Omega South Leo Club welcomed and cheered on the students of The Seventh Day Adventist School in Cole Bay on their first day back to school.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic the Sint Maarten Lions Club’s annual Back to School project could not be executed in the 2020-2021 school year, which made the event an extra special one this year.
“This project was very important for our Lions Club and very encouraging for our members. Seeing the many obstacles we faced last year, we had the opportunity this morning to welcome the students, teachers and staff back to school and help them to make this school year 2021-2022 a positive one”, says Club President, Lion Linette Gibs.
The Sint Maarten Lions club visits two schools yearly on the first day of school and this year chose to visit two larger schools in the Cole Bay / Cay Bay area, each school having over 250 students. The second school that will be visited to welcome the students back is the Lionel Connor School in Cay Bay, which will open its gates for the first time since it was severely damaged by hurricane Irma on Monday, August 16th, 2021.
Students walking unto the school grounds were cheered on, could have their picture taken, and were given a juice pack to keep them fresh & cool, back to school.
The Sint Maarten Lions Club & Omega South Leo Club wish all new and returning students a very fun and successful schoolyear 2021-2022 ahead!
