SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, officers of the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) were conducting a routine control in the Philipsburg area, specifically on Front Street, when they encountered a male individual carrying a backpack.
As officers attempted to approach and conduct a control of the individual, he fled the scene on foot, leaving the backpack behind.

KPSM is appealing to members of the public who have recently lost or had license plates stolen to report the matter at the nearest police station. Individuals are encouraged to provide the necessary information so officers can determine whether their missing license plate(s) are among those recovered.
KPSM also reminds vendors and businesses that they should exercise caution when purchasing license plates or other vehicle-related items from unknown or random individuals. Purchasing stolen property can have legal consequences.
