Members of the Minister’s Cabinet also participated in the breast cancer screening initiative, demonstrating their support for early detection and preventive healthcare.

During his visit, Minister Connor had the opportunity to interact directly with SMMC's medical and support staff, as well as women visiting the medical center to participate in the screenings. The Minister was particularly encouraged by the positive energy and welcoming atmosphere throughout the event.

“What stood out to me was the upbeat atmosphere and enthusiasm demonstrated by everyone present. It was encouraging to engage directly with the medical professionals, support staff, and members of the public who came out to prioritize their health. I commend the healthcare professionals and volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to supporting this worthy cause,” Minister Connor stated.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of making preventive healthcare a priority.

“Early detection saves lives, but it begins with taking action. I encourage every woman to make her health a priority. Do not wait until something feels wrong to seek medical advice. Speak with your healthcare provider about appropriate screenings, know your personal risk factors, and encourage your mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends to do the same. Prevention and early detection must become part of our everyday approach to health.”

Minister Connor reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration between healthcare institutions, community organizations, and government in promoting a healthier Sint Maarten.

The Ministry of VSA encourages all residents to take proactive steps toward their well-being by scheduling regular checkups, following recommended screening guidelines, and making use of available preventive healthcare services. A healthier Sint Maarten begins with informed choices, early detection, and timely action.
