SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - Member of Parliament (MP) Christopher Wever, through the Wever Works Foundation, has continued his annual support for students with donations of school bags and school supplies to Judicial and Institutional Services and Dr. J Enterprises, a foster home serving teenagers.
The donations followed the completion of Wever Works’ sixth annual Back-to-School Give Back, which again focused on helping children and families prepare for the start of the new school year.
Wever said the community giveaway has now been held successfully for six consecutive years, with this year’s campaign introducing an additional component through partnerships with local small businesses.
This year’s initiative, held under the theme “Supporting Our Youth. Building Our Future,” included partnerships with Arts From The Heart, Magical Memories, Sieben Bath N Body, Leana’s Coffee Shack and Basket Boutique. During the August 3 to 7 campaign, Wever Works used daily live announcements to direct participants to participating businesses, where school bags, gift certificates and other items were distributed.
Wever said he hopes to expand the initiative next year while continuing to partner with local small businesses. He noted that feedback has been positive and that several other businesses have already expressed interest in participating, which could allow the campaign to grow further.
The donations to Judicial and Institutional Services and Dr. J Enterprises formed part of Wever Works’ broader effort to ensure that young people, including those who may require additional community support, have access to basic school necessities.
Wever said the initiative has remained focused throughout its six years on practical assistance for students and families while reinforcing the importance of the community playing an active role in supporting young people.
As students across St. Maarten prepare to return to the classroom, Wever encouraged them to approach the new school year with purpose, discipline and confidence.
“To every student beginning a new school year, remember that every day gives you another opportunity to learn, improve and move closer to the future you want for yourself. There will be challenges, but do not allow difficult moments to determine what you are capable of achieving. Stay focused, respect your teachers and classmates, ask for help when you need it and take pride in doing your best.
“To our parents, guardians, teachers and everyone who supports our young people, thank you for the role you continue to play. Preparing a child for school is about more than books, bags and supplies. It is also about encouragement, guidance and reminding them that someone believes in their potential. I wish every student, educator and family across St. Maarten a safe, productive and successful school year.”
Wever thanked the businesses that partnered with Wever Works during this year’s campaign, as well as those who have supported the annual initiative over the past six years. He said the foundation intends to continue expanding the Back-to-School Give Back and strengthening its partnerships with the local business community.
