SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY-AIRPORT) - Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company N.V. (PJIAE), in partnership with SXM Paws, once again welcomed rescued puppies to Princess Juliana International Airport as part of its Paws in Flight Saturday initiative.
This latest visit featured Asher, Theo and Felix, three SXM Paws puppies currently available for adoption. During their time at the airport, the puppies received plenty of attention from passengers and members of the KLM cabin crew, who took a moment to meet and cuddle the young dogs before departure.
The initiative forms part of a wider collaboration between PJIA and SXM Paws aimed at helping rescued dogs from St. Maarten connect with the flights, volunteers and traveling companions they need to reach adoptive families abroad. Over the past year alone, more than 100 puppies and rescued dogs have been transported through Princess Juliana International Airport as part of overseas adoption and relocation efforts, highlighting the important role air connectivity plays in supporting local animal welfare organizations.
SXM Paws relies on volunteers, foster families, donations and community support to rescue, rehabilitate, rehome stray and abandoned dogs. Once a suitable family is found abroad, air transportation becomes one of the final and most important steps in getting each animal to its new home.
Through Paws in Flight Saturday, PJIAE helps create greater visibility for the work of SXM Paws while also encouraging travelers to learn more about how they can assist, whether through adoption, fostering, volunteering, donating or serving as a flight companion for a rescued dog.
The presence of Asher, Theo and Felix also provided an opportunity to engage passengers and airline crews with the initiative in a personal way, bringing additional awareness to the many dogs still waiting for adoption.
